Many employers promote good employees into management positions but do not have the resources to train them in management practices. The Cape Area Management Program (CAMP) was developed to fill this gap, and thereby decrease employee turnover, increase efficiency, improve customer and employee satisfaction, and enhance manager's leadership skills. Over the course of this three year grant, the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board hopes to train more than 150 supervisors and managers in the basics of practical management, team work, project management and continuous quality improvement. Each training module is comprised of lecture and discussion with a peer to peer practicum (practice new skills, share best practices, addressing real time problems). Students learn, develop and practice skills in guiding, coaching and developing their employees, performance assessment, conflict management, team development, consensus building, project and time management, and quality improvement. Career coaching is also offered to all participants to assist them in thinking strategically about their career and continuing training needs. |
