Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report Update

In the week ending Sept. 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 550,000, a decrease of 26,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 576,000. The 4-week moving average was 570,000, a decrease of 2,750 from the previous week's revised average of 572,750.

Upper Cape Tech Adult Education Fall Semester Begins September 14, 2009

Fall Semester begins on September 14 at Upper Cape Tech Adult Education 220 Sandwich Rd in Bourne, MA.  There are 204 onsite classes in Health, Technical, Trade, Computers, Professional Development, Non Profit Training and Personal Enrichment. 

Among our course offerings are Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant Essentials, Veterinary Assistant, Medical Coding, Medical Secretary, AutoCAD, Computer Basics, QuickBooks 2007, Nail Technician, Electrical, Plumbing, Construction Supervisors' Pre-Licensing, Zumba, Culinary Arts, Languages, Yoga,  Digital Photography and much more.

Meet with training faculty, our practicum leader and staff from the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board who will provide information about the course and answer questions.

Management Training
80 hour training includes lecture and practice in the following areas:
* First-Line Supervisor
* Teams / Team Work
* Effective Project Management
* Continuous Quality Improvement


CAMP is a cross sector training program targeting management occupations on the Cape and Islands.  Industries such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, real-estate, financial services, human services, public administration, construction and the arts can join the program.  Graduates earn four college credits from the National Graduate School, and a certificate of completion. To date 55 Cape Cod employees from 12 businesses and organizations from Barnstable to Brewster successfully completed the program.
 
The Cape Area Management Program (CAMP) was established by the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board (C&I WIB) through a three year state grant. This October we will begin the third training session in the Falmouth area. This session will include desktop delivery to trainees on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard or those unable to commute to the training site. The on-line classes will be delivered in real time to employee's desktops with chat room interactivity where participants can ask questions and receive immediate feedback.

The Joint Task Force on the Underground Economy welcomes your testimony about workplace fraud and employee misclassification. How has your workplace, business or community been impacted?

If you do wish to testify at this event, please bring extra copies of your written remarks for the Joint Task Force to keep. If you cannot attend, but would like your testimony to be included at this meeting, please send it in advance.
