Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report Update

In the week ending March 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 654,000, an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 645,000. The 4-week moving average was 650,000, an increase of 6,750 from the previous week's revised average of 643,250.

Workshop For Women Entering the Workforce

The Start Smart campus workshop was developed by the WAGE (Women Are Getting Even) initiative.
The goal is helping young women graduating from college negotiate their salaries in the workplace,
and to avoid the gender age gap. The date is Tuesday March 24th in the North Building, Rm. 114 from
5:30pm-9:30pm. The event will be facilitated by Claudine Barnes and Mikel Satcher.

· According to China's People's Daily, the per-capita salary for
employees at urban state-owned
enterprises was 13,800 yuan, up
17%, while that for workers at private entities was 12,610 yuan, up 19.2%. The per-capita disposable
income of urbanites rose 14.4%.
Farmers' per-capita cash income
stood at 2,528 yuan in first half,
up 19.8%, or 10.3% adjusted for
inflation. (A yuan is worth about
15 cents.)
