Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report Update
In the week ending June 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 414,000, a decrease of 16,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 430,000. The 4-week moving average was 424,750, unchanged from the previous week's revised average of 424,750.

Project Playhouse
Cape Cod |
Project Playhouse Cape Cod is a new fundraiser for the children's programs of Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC). A non-profit organization that provides affordable-housing services and solutions to Cape Codders, HAC has partnered with Cape builders EJ Jaxtimer, Cape Associates, Inc., and the Valle Group to showcase three one-of-a-kind playhouses to be raffled off on August 12, 2011.
The goal is to raise $40,000 to benefit HAC, which serves approximately 3,000 children each year through emergency shelters and housing programs. Playhouses can be viewed July 1 through August 12 at Four Seas Ice Cream in Centerville, the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis and Mashpee Commons in Mashpee. |

For Middle School Students (Grades 6-7-8) it Really is Rocket Science This Summer, And Registration is Open Now !
For the second summer, the College is offering an outstanding opportunity for young people to both learn and "do" in the sciences. This Summer participants will investigate the science & technology of Sustainable Engineering and Aerospace.
It IS Rocket Science is a fun program for middle school students in grades 6-8. Students will design, develop, build, test, and refine rockets as they explore concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. With a special focus on sustainability, the Summer of Science program allows students the opportunity to explore real world problem-solving scenarios: working in teams on design challenges; using computer-based data collection and analysis tools; and having the chance to gain experience doing science.
Every day is packed with opportunities to learn, explore, and make new friends.

MA Conference for Women Announces Partial Keynote Lineup, Opens Early Registration |
The Massachusetts Conference for Women has announced a partial keynote lineup and opened early registration for the December 8, 2011 event.
More than 6,500 women are expected to attend the seventh annual conference, which will feature inspiring and informative speakers, including life coach and O, The Oprah Magazine, columnist Martha Beck; humanitarian and Emmy Award-winning actress from TV's "Ugly Betty," America Ferrera; and WNBA player and former Olympic athlete Marion Jones. State Street Corporation serves as presenting sponsor of the conference, a non-profit organization.
This year's theme, "Live Fearlessly!," encourages women to conquer the challenges of their daily lives, whether professional or personal. The conference offers engaging keynotes that cover topics including career advancement, personal development, reinvention, social media management and entrepreneurship.
New to this year's conference is an additional full day of programming on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Specifically designed for current and aspiring small business owners, The Massachusetts Conference for Women Spark & Hustle Small Business Boot Camp will be jointly hosted by The Massachusetts Conference for Women and Tory Johnson, "Good Morning America" workplace contributor and CEO of Women For Hire and Spark & Hustle. The day will feature solo presenters, panel discussions, interactive exercises, structured networking and vendor tables.
Networking opportunities for attendees include a Career Pavilion with community leader "Meet Ups," the conference's successful Mentor Match program and one-on-one resume critiques. Additionally, conference organizers are bringing back the popular Health & Wellness Pavilion that features companies, organizations and experts focused on the latest advancements in products, services and treatments for the mind and body.
The Massachusetts Conference for Women is overseen by a board of directors of 11 women who are leaders in the fields of finance, technology, marketing, banking, higher education, advertising, leadership development and non-profit management.
Opportunities for attendees to connect via social networks before the conference are available through the conference's website.
To date, State Street Corporation, EMD Serono, Inc., Hill Holliday, Raytheon Company, AT&T, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Boston Scientific, Tufts Health Plan, AAA Southern New England, Bentley University, National Grid, The TJX Companies, Inc., Visa and Weber Shandwick will serve as sponsors. Early-bird registration is $130 and can be completed online at http://maconferenceforwomen.org. Registration includes access to all keynotes and sessions, Career Pavilion, Health & Wellness Pavilion and Exhibit Hall. Registration will increase to $140 on July 4. Registration for the Small Business Boot Camp is $220 and includes a ticket to The Massachusetts Conference for Women.
Scholarships are available for high school juniors and seniors through the conference's Young Women's Program. Student tickets are available for $70 and will increase to $75 on October 27.
