Requests For Proposal |
Barnstable County, through its Chief Procurement Office and on behalf of the Department of Human Services, seeks a qualified contractor to assist the Department in implementing the "Healthy Connected Cape Cod" Project. The maximum amount available for this contract is $18,000.00 for a 10 month period with the option to renew for up to two (2) additional one (1) year periods.
Data collected over the last five years by the Department indicate that hunger and mental health are consistently ranked as two critical concerns in our community. The County's Health and Human Services Advisory Council along with the Department are engaging in a three year community wide project called "Healthy Connected Cape Cod" to address these two issues. The goal of this project is to build a healthier community on Cape Cod by engaging consumers and clients of the various organizations, networks and collaboratives of the HHSAC.
The first year of the project will focus on "Healthy and Happy Eating for All". "Happy and Healthy" eating are important factors that enhance quality of life. The "healthy" component relates to eating as a social determinate to good physical and mental health. The "happy" component relates to the social aspects of eating that provide a context for connecting to others to reduce social isolation. The vision of "Healthy and Happy Eating for All" is for Barnstable County residents to increase their knowledge of nutritionally sound healthy food, increase awareness of existing community based food and nutrition programs, and increase participation in food centered social experiences.
The RFP and submission requirements are available on the Barnstable County Purchasing website: http://purchasing.barnstablecounty.org.

Even Jobs in Education Aren't Recession-Proof These Days |
With school enrollments rising, it might seem strange that education, one of the most seemingly recession-proof careers, is experiencing sharp employment declines. Approximately 121,000 teaching positions at the elementary, secondary and college level were lost from September 2008 to September 2009, according to a report from the federal government. This is the biggest decline since the 1950's.
Current teachers can expect increased class sizes and more duties outside the classroom as enrollments continue to rise. Education students are expected to face very strong competition for jobs. Those with advanced degrees, who are certified, and who are willing to relocate to take positions will have the best employment prospects.
