Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board / Youth Council to Hold "Career for a Day" for Middle School students

The Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board/Youth Council in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, and the YMCA are planning an event, "Career for a Day," for April 23, 2009. This program will give middle school children, ages 12 to 14, a tour of a wide variety of businesses in the Mid Cape and Upper Cape regions. This is the second year for this program

Area businesses have joined in this endeavor by agreeing to conduct a brief tour of their facilities and to give an overview of the careers available in their industry. Information on the skills, studies, and education necessary for these jobs will also be presented.  The event will be hosted by RHCI in Sandwich and will include tours of:

FedEx
Cape Codder Resort
Hyannis Fire Station
Yarmouth Police Station
Hyannis Toyota
Infor
Cape Air
Shepley Wood Products
YMCA
WXTK Radio
Massachusetts Military Reservation Installation
U.S. Corps of Engineers Traffic Control Center
Pairpoint Glass
Kingman Marina
Barnstable County Sherriff's Correctional Facility

Lunch is being donated by the Box Lunch in Hyannis.

The goal of "Career for a Day" is to show our region's youth, that there are good jobs, affording a livable wage here on Cape Cod and that education is a crucial step in the process.
